SEOW Commander's Workshop

When ?
Saturday 25 August and Saturday 1 Sept   1900 hrs – 2100 hrs Atlantic (UDT -3)

Where ?  We will meet on Teamspeak.
Contact me (Kopfdorfer) at SAS , M4T , SEOWHQ , or Aces High Forum
                for IP and Password

In order to broaden the understanding of the IL2 Community as to what SEOW is , and why it is (in my opinion) the absolute culmination of all the elements that IL2 has to offer , I will be hosting a workshop over 2 successive Saturdays on the Scorched Earth Mission Planner (SEMP) – what it is and how to use it to generate dynamic and related Cooperative Missions.

The workshop will be a cooperative environment where the group will learn the following :
1) Components of the SEOW System (SEDB , SEMP , SEDCS)
2) How to design a Scorched Earth campaign
3) How to initialize a Scorched Earth campaign template
4) How to access the SEMP
5) How to Add forces to an existing campaign template
6) How to set objectives , historical context for a campaign in the SEMP
7) How to plot movements of aircraft , ships , and ground forces in the SEMP
How to plot escort , ground attack , CAP , recon , transport , supply drop missions for aircraft
8) How to form , name and plot movements for Task Forces
9) How to generate an IL2 Coop Mission using the SEMP
10) How to run a mission generated by the SEMP
11) How to enter a Pilot Report following a mission
12) How to analyze the results of the SE Coop mission once flown
13) How the mission analysis results are reflected in the SEMP for the next mission

What do you need to participate ?
Interestingly enough , to be fully involved as a commander in an SEOW campaign , you needn't even have IL2 installed on your PC. You may treat the MP as a command map , and order your forces only through the SEMP.
You will need a host and pilots with HSFX7 installed to resolve your battles using the IL2 HSFX7 engine.

You will need Teamspeak 3 installed and working.
( I recommend version 3.1.8  - NO LATER ) .

You will need a functioning instance of the Windows Explorer v11 browser
–  SEOW was written to be used with Explorer. While other browsers may be made to work , I am not an expert , and will not use time intended for the workshop to sort out browser issues for other browsers.

If you are interested in participating , please DO NOT SHOW UP EXPECTING HELP GETTING TS and Explorer working. I don't want to waste the time of those showing up for the SEOW Workshop on setting up these fundamental tools.
If you know you want to participate , and need assistance setting up , contact me by pm to set up WELL IN ADVANCE of the workshop dates , or go to SEOWHQ and inquire for help there.

I am not an SEOW expert , but I am a strong proponent. There will be questions that I cannot answer. My goal in this workshop is not to solve every technical question that may arise
( though I will do my best to do so ) ; it is to show some of the many ways in which SEOW uses the maximum of what IL2 has to offer the online pilot and military simmer.

For the best technical assistance , I recommend asking questions at the following places :
SEOW HQ         :      http://www.seowhq.net/
Derriers Loisirs  :      http://www.derrierloisirs.fr/il2/bdd2012/
Virtual Air Regiment Phoenix (SEOW thread)  :    http://2ndvarp.net/forumdisplay.php?52-SEOW

I really hope to hear a few new voices for this workshop.
You haven't experienced the ultimate in IL2 until you have flown an SEOW Campaign.

Sincerely

Kopfdorfer

Well last Saturday came and went by with no Aces High representation for this workshop.
AH_Kawilder put in no small amount of work to get a server up and running - which I am very grateful for.
I intend to get a campaign up and running as long as he is willing to have the server up.

I will host another info session/workshop Saturday 1 September at 1900 hours Atlantic ( UTC-3).
It will be hosted on TeamSpeak , as other community members do not all have Vent or Dischord.

You need a working Internet Explorer v11.
If you have any version of Windows , it is on your PC.
SEOW was written to work explicitly with Explorer.
It may work with another browser , but I am not technically inclined ,
and don't want to spend workshop time on getting Explorer going on everyones PC.

I will review how to use compatibility mode in Explorer , which is required to activate the ToolTips in the SEMP
(Scorched Earth Mission Planner). These are necessary to use the MP properly.

Hope to see a couple of bodies on Saturday.

Reminder about the SEOW Commanders Workshop Tomorrow evening.
See the above thread for details.
If you want to know what SEOW is about and why I am such a fan,
this is the venue to find out.

So the second workshop date came and went and no Aces High Members were present.

I will build and run this campaign as long as Kawilder is willing to keep the Server Up.

I will post when it will start.
Missions will likely be run Saturday nights ( could do Friday nights as an alternative).

Anyone interested in flying let me know.
I will make up the teams as we get near to start.
It will be done randomly , and you must fly the same side for the campaign duration.
The Campaign will run 6 Missions.

Campaign outline to follow.

I don't know if anybody mentioned this to you Kopf, but AH has messed with SEOW in the past. We did some player vs player stuff and tried one campaign vs the AI where we had one guy running the opposition. Not sure we ever completed one, it always kinda petered out.

Kop, I'd love to jump right in there and join in on the fun, but, 1900 UTC is almost impossible for me and I sure most other pilots to attend. If Im correct, that's 2pm EST. Most of us are still at work during that time. Just lett'en you know. Otherwise Im sure you would see a lot more AH pilots there. I know I'd be there if it wasn't for the start time. But hey, if your going to put up some missions up around our normal flight time. Ill do my best to make time to fly them. If that's possible. S!
Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.

1900 Atlantic OR  UTC -3 , or 1800 EST.

I am doing my best to cover the most timezones possible.
The times we are considering to run the Campaign will be Friday Evenings/Saturday evenings/or Sundays  to accommodate European and Aussie friends
who have been showing up for the meetings.
I realize that some guys work shifts and not all weekend based times are satisfactory to all.
I have to start somewhere.

I am also avoiding established Aces High flight times in an effort to NOT conflict with regular operations as I am aware
that my preferred flight settings ( even though I am quite far away from them now in an attempt to accommodate more guys)
are not satisfactory to some members.

I tried to emphasize that some familiarity with the SEOW system ( which could have been achieved by workshop participation)
allows great versatility in the settings that can be flown - you can use any settings available in IL2.
IE if any AH guys had made the Workshop Times , I had committed to assist them putting together a campaign according to
anyones desired specifications.

Both meetings were announced with 2 weeks plus notice.
I can only provide for those in attendance.

I appreciate the feedback DW , z50 .

I am obliged to defer to some of the AH desires because I respect and appreciate the work AH_Kawilder put in to get this server up ,
and I know he did so because some AH pilots expressed some interest when I brought up my interest in SEOW , and the possibility of
getting a campaign off the ground.
I enjoy working in the SEOW system , but if I have no input by anyone else who is interested enough to participate in planning ,
I can only do so much .
While it is possible to plot and fly from just one side , it loses a lot of the drama/surprise , especially so for an enemy planner who then has to
fly as though they don't know what the enemy will do.
This becomes much like a scripted campaign , and one of the prime reasons why Mission Builders enjoy SEOW.

An SEOW campaign only needs 2 participants to function.
I am one.

I intend to run the Campaign that is in the works for those who showed up - it's the least I can do.
Any AH Guys who wish to participate are more than welcome to , that's why this effort was initiated after all.

I'll keep posting the info pertaining to sides and scheduling as it develops.

I don't much want commander status but do keep me in the pilot list. Things have gotten hectic the past couple months. Maybe when they screw the time up and it gets dark at 6pm I will get more time. Just let me know where and when and if I can attend I will be there.
