S~ All,

As the time draws near for the "Philippines Campaign" to start ... I want to welcome you all to what I hope will be a fun campaign !! :)  This forum thread will be where I'm going to be posting the individual mission maps and briefings.  I hope to have the new briefing for the next mission posted on Friday's.  The current time frame for mission-01 looks to be flown on September 18th (is now scheduled).

With this campaign, the use of "Unit Squadrons" will be used and as the campaign progresses from mission to mission the squad assignments will also rotate.  Fighter, bomber, torpedo planes ... ect.

Well with all that being said ... Here is Mission #01.

Mission - 01

Date: October 18th, 1944

Intelligence:

Good Morning Gentlemen ... Welcome aboard the aircraft carriers: the USS Yorktown (CV-5), the USS Essex (CV-9), and the USS Intrepid (CV-11). "Operation Musketeer " ... The invasion of the Philippines, will begin first with the invasion of Leyte Island. Leyte is protected by two enemy sea-plane bases and two airfields.

Our task today is to strike the enemy sea-plane base that is directly west of Dinagat Island, grid BZ-24, pad 8, on your map.

RECON PHOTO:


Our latest submarine patrol report stated that the sea-plane base is operating A6M Zero float planes and H8K1 transports. This base also has docking facilities to support ships and submarines.

AAA strength in this area has been noted as medium.

The Mission:

Our mission is to hit the sea-plane base in grid BZ-24, pad 8, on your map, while at this same time we will be supporting the Army's 6th Ranger Bn, who landed on the north tip of this island during the night.



1st Squad (F6F) - USS Yorktown - Provide CAP for the strike aircraft.
2nd Squad (TBF) - USS Essex - Arm with bombs and rockets.  Attack the sea-plane base.
3rd Squad (TBF) - USS Intrepid  - Arm with bombs and rockets.  Attack the sea-plane base.
HQ & Guests (F6F) - Provide CAP for the strike aircraft.

Notams:

*All pilots to remain on the same comms channel this mission.
*All aircraft have 1% fuel at this time.

1st Squad (F6F) - seats 49 - 56
2nd Squad (TBF) - seats 1 - 24
3rd Squad (TBF) - seats 25-48
HQ & Guests (F6F) seats 57 - 60, AIR - START

Good Morning Gentlemen ... Welcome aboard the aircraft carriers: the USS Yorktown (CV-5), the USS Essex (CV-9), and the USS Intrepid (CV-11). "Operation Musketeer " ... So just to confirm you used the Yorktown CV-5 1942 in the mission? If so we'll have to keep in mind that that ship does not have catapults. The chaps who start there will have to make deck runs.

Date: October 19th, 1944

After Action Report:

Excellent work on destroying the enemy sea-plane base.  The group destroyed over 30+ enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground. Group also destroyed an enemy submarine, sea-plane tender, an escort ship, and other vessels. We are steaming north to position ourselves for the next objective.

In preparation for the US Army's landings on Leyte, we've been tasked to attack the second enemy sea-plane base, grid BY-30, pad 5, on your map. The 6th Ranger Bn, has secured the small island in the middle of Leyte Gulf, as well as, the northern tip of the island we attacked previously, and are now setting up a channel marking system for our invasion ships.

Submarine patrol reports stated, that the sea-plane base is operating A6M Zero float planes and H8K1 transports, much like the previous target. This base also has docking facilities to support ships and numerous other vessels.

AAA strength in this area has been noted as medium.

Excellent work on destroying the enemy sea-plane base.  The group destroyed over 30+ enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground. Group also destroyed an enemy destroyer, sea-plane tender, an escort ship, and other vessels.

Gen. MacArthur's Army is landing on Leyte this morning.  The group's tasking is to support the landings by hitting the airfield and port at Tacloban, grid BW-31, pad 2, and the airfield at Bayug, grid BW-29, pad 7, on your map.

AAA strength in these areas has been noted as medium.

Enemy vessels and vehicle convoys have been noted in these areas as well.

Enemy aircraft will be a threat in this area.

The Mission:

The mission is a two pronged attack ...

1st Squad (F6F) - USS Essex  - Arm with bombs and rockets.  Attack the small airfield and port at Tacloban, grid BW-31, pad 2.

"Philippine's Campaign - Leyte"
Mission - 04
Date: October 21th, 1944

After Action Report:

Great work hitting the enemy bases at Tacloban and Bayug.  Gen. MacArthur's Army's has successfully landed on Leyte beaches with minimal resistance.  The Army has pushed in deep along the northern portion of the island.

The group destroyed numerous enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground, as well as, sinking a transport ship, a coastal defence boat, and other vessels.

Intelligence:

Good Morning Gentlemen ...

Our tasking today is to continue to cover the Army on the beachhead. Ship-borne radar has numerous enemy aircraft scrambling through-out this area. Radar operators have determined that there are "four" separate groups of enemy planes heading to the beachhead in grid BW-29, pad 9.



The Mission:

All group aircraft (F6F) are to protect the beachhead. Destroy any enemy aircraft encountered.

Notams:

*All pilots to use same comms channel this mission.
*All deck aircraft have 1% fuel.

1st Squad (F6F) - seats 1-8
2nd Squad (F6F) - seats 9-16
3rd Squad (F6F) - seats 17-24
