Good job on the plan tonight guys. It did'nt work out quite the way I expected, seems we had to be much closer to the flak than I expected to get it to fire so there were still a bunch of guns who fired first at the corsairs. Good job sticking to the attack pattern, we had a few guy comming in from the wrong direction but over it went well.

Yes, the heat was still strong on my attack run, who was suppose to draw AAA fire?  :thinking-008:

_AH_Lippy

A & B flight did a good job reconizing that AA wasnt firing and came in to draw thier fire and it worked good job. The AA did finaly realize the plan and focused on the bombing group. Wasn't much but what was there was accurate and strong. The chapps that followed me in had a pretty picture to bomb well done A & B Flight it aint easy being decoys. I learned a critacal lesson yesterday and think of the squad instead of myself. I should have listened to Auto and think of the bigger picture than my own aginda. Sorry Mates I will do better next time and not put us in that perdicament. Over all I think it was executed as planned C & D flight drawed theier halves out as they approached well done Olds. The airfield was destroyed we lost some guys, my hat is off to the fallen ~S~.

      Just my 2 cents worth.
Another good way to draw AAA fire is to stay just outside their range. Take a couple of planes and fly back and forth..in tandum...back and forth along the line. When you have them all firing at you the rest come in from behind and wipe 'um out and egess out low by slow rolling till out of range. Slow roll and thay wount hit you on the way out. Try it...it works.
I love my country..It's the government I'm afraid of.

Part of the issue with the flak was it was more spread out since the airfield was larger than I expected. If we had been able to do an overflight maybe we could have got it all shooting, but as it was the decoys were'nt able to attract the attention of the flak on the far side of the field from them.

Don't be too hard on yourself Lippy. My original plan was to have everyone gather above the target after ordnance was gone and RTB as one big group. Instead when I left to escort Hogan home I said "RTB once you're clear of fighters". That led to flights RTB'ing indepedently and precipitated some of the later unpleasantness. Keeping the strike together as a whole would help alot.

Yup, I had to make a choice,

Turn back with DW and ditch on the way home, or rtb unescorted and land.

I chose "poorly".

I made every effort to cover you Hogan, but you did'nt slow down. Once you were an F6F tag disapearing in the distance there seemed little point in me trying to follow. I picked up Auto and a little later we saw your dot in the distance and I told you we were behind you. You kept flying and ran into the fighters alone...

yeah, i had to cut the corners on the way back after making another run over the target when i realized i was the last one there except gattling. i should of left with you DW but i didn't heard your outbound call.
i was going to escort gattling home because he said he had no guns.. i told him to follow me left but he banked off to the right on to inbound way points i think and i lost him around that big mountain...
my engine was cooked as well from a few hits so i was real slow on my way back to the boat, then in the middle of the fight with those 61's that got you near the boat my motor decided to spit oil on my windscreen and pack up, i barely had enough power to make it the boat and taxi.
it was a close call for all of us that made it back, lots learned.
i think we should all exit the target area at the same time and stick together as flights, apart from hurt birds with escorts. seems they like to jump us on the way out.

Yeah,I simply missunderstood Auto and flew to the right of the mountain and then was in such a hurry to get back to the boat cause I had no bullits and was low on fuel I left Him,sorry Auto. When I got to the boat I was too low on first approach so went around, ran out of fuel, tried to glide, plane did a left wing-over and went into the drink. I just don't think I will ever understand why our kills are taken away when we are killed on way back to base, our kills are still just as dead,it's as though we never flew the mission. oh well,I'll get over it.

Good tactical points DW.

That's the great thing about advice, you can take as much or little as you like.

Let me know if you don't want me to contribute but I hope everyone is assured that none of the advice I offer needs to be taken.

I'll not be offended and I do not intend to offend anyone either...

No worries Gos, advice and experiance posting is allways welcome here.

_AH_DarkWolf

There's no reason for anyone to be offended here, I certainly don't mind anyone giving their opinions or ideas.

Umm, using the term "bro" more than once in a single message is a violation of the AH Code of Conduct. Don't let it happen again.
