Campaign #21
There are no claims to factual events in this campaign it has been made for your enjoyment. We will fly a Darkwolf smells like cheese variety of aircraft throughout this campaign, something different in each endeavor.
B17s will airstart (4000M or 13,120ft.) with a large formation in AK19 and heading towards Brussels (AY18) for a high altitude bombing attack.( recommended loadout 16x500lbs and 30% fuel)
P-47s, P-51s out of Vendeville airport in AQ15, and Spitfires airstart with the bombers at 5500M, will escort the bombers to target and back. After bombing Brussels in AY18, AI B17s will head to Abbeville AH10, Live piloted B-17s will land at Vendeville.
B-25s and F6Fs will take off the USS Boxer and the USS Essex in AS24 and will attack the airfeild in AZ22 just south of Antwerp. Keep an eye out for ships and trains, they would be high value targets.

Yes B25s off the carrier.. i tryed with 80% fuel and bombs, have the ships going pretty fast, made it off no problem, dropped my bombs, circled and landed on the carrier 1st try ...
We have 2 B25s and 2 F6Fs per carrier, they line up astern
Is the Spitfire HF IXe,1944 better at high altitudes than the Spit i have chosen?
~S~
P-51
Bear,
To your question:
QuoteIs the Spitfire HF IXe,1944 better at high altitudes than the Spit i have chosen?
Quotethe prefixes which were used on most later Spitfire variants, L.F. Mark..., F. Mark.. and H.F Mark indicated whether the engines fitted were suited for low, medium or high altitude.
L.F. IXe:
QuoteProduction of the LF Mk IXs.... was by far the most produced of the Spitfire IX variants, with over 4000 built. The maximum power of the Merlin 66 was 1,720 hp (1,280 kW) at 5,750 ft (1,283 kW at 1,752 m) and the maximum speed of the Spitfire LF IX was 404 mph (650 km/h) at 21,000 feet (6,400 m).
H.F. has better performance at high altitude.
QuoteThe H.F IX was powered by the specialised high altitude Merlin 70 and entered service in the Spring of 1944. Serial listings show that the HF Mk IX was produced in relatively limited numbers when they were required, with priority being given to versions rated for low and medium altitudes. Maximum power of the Merlin 70 was 1,710 hp (1,280 kW) at 11,000 ft (1,275 kW at 3,353 m): maximum speed of the Spitfire HF.IX was 405 mph (652 km/h) at 25,400 feet (7,700 m) at an all-up weight of 7,320 lb (3,320 kg).

Jug please
B-25, I guess. At least when I die, I can take my crew with me.
Spitfire is tempting but I think I will go with a Mustang again.
