Title: IL-2 1946 HSFX - Installation
Post by: _AH_Duff4r on September 24, 2012, 09:02:22 PM
Gents,

Although I had a small part and thus an interest in UP 3.0, that interest is over. There are two reasons for this. One, the community as a whole did not fully embrace the changes of UP 3.0, including us..we never used the Arm / Refuel in a COOP. UP 3.0 superseded COOPs with COOP-Dogfights that could be joined at any time and allowed landings / reflys. Two, I believe HaDes got both tired and stubborn to a fault. He quit listening. In business if you don't listen to what your customer is saying he is soon to find another business!

HSFX - I am personally excited about going here! This will take some work and lots of patience but it is easily doable by all, Yes, YOU TOO TD :). We all need a 'can do' attitude!

Step 1: Start with a NEW install or clean (no mods) copy of IL-2 and patch it to IL-2 1946 4.11.1. I highly recommend that you check each version update by launching it once to be sure you have updated correctly.

a.)Here are ALL the IL-2 1946 OFFICIAL patches starting from Out-of-da-box 4.07: http://www.tuttovola.it/il2/1_IL2_Sturmovik_1946_official_patches/

b.) In particular 4.09 had a skins update so 2 part install be sure you use the right one! It is NOT mandatory to add the skins update but I did.

c.) 4.10 had a 4.10.1

d.) 4.11 had a 4.11.1 Make sure version 4.11.1 runs! It should say 4.11.1 in the lower left corner of the start screen. If it doesn't it simply won't work!

If HSFX won't start after install. It was improperly updated! Specifically from 4.11 to 4.11.1 (You been Warned!)

Step 2: Go here for the HSFX downloads: http://www.mediafire.com/?eolgybzm3yvhu Note, be patient...not piggy and download one file at a time.

a.) There are 9 files total Files are named as below:

- HSFX_Version_6_0.EXE - 650 Mb.
- HSFX_Version_6_0.W02 - 650 Mb.
- HSFX_Version_6_0.W03 - 650 Mb.
- HSFX_Version_6_0.W04 - 41 Mb.

- Part2_Ver_6.EXE ..........- 650 Mb.
- Part2_Ver_6.W02..........- 650 Mb.
- Part2_Ver_6.W03..........- 604 Mb.

- Part3_Ver_6.EXE ..........- 650 Mb.
- Part3_Ver_6.W02 ..........- 85 Mb

         Total of - 4,630 Mb. (4.6 Gb.)

Notes!

1.) ALL NINE FILES NEED TO BE IN THE SAME FOLDER! <== OLDs read this!==> DO NOT RENAME ANYTHING!

2.) You only have to click this executable ===> HSFX_Version_6_0.EXE  It will install part 1 and automagically launch the other two .exe's installing Part2 and Part3

3.) If your install hangs, you have a corrupted file! This Means one or more of the 9 files didn't download properly! Don't whine...figure out which one and go download it again. Check for proper file sizes! Once downloaded to your machine they should be exactly as listed here on this post.

Step 3: After you have installed HSFX open the game main folder and launch JSGME.exe From the left side, move 'HSFX history mod' to the right side...nothing else! Start IL-2 HSFX. It will take a bit to start the first time so.... be patient. Move the 'HSFX history mod' back to the left side.

Step 4: Next, install the HSFX 6.0.1 Patch from here: HSFX_Version_6_0_Patch_1.EXE (http://mercurialme.biz/HSFX_Version_6_0_Patch_1.EXE) There is no real need to run HSFX 6.0.1, but it sure wouldn't hurt! If you do remember you have to move HSFX history mod to the right in JSGME.exe and back again after the game runs and before you continue!

NOTE: I would love to tell you you're done, but you ain't! <Deep Breath>

Step 5: Download the NEW Auto Updater, go here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/26976891/HSFX_Auto_Updater.EXE (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/26976891/HSFX_Auto_Updater.EXE)

a.) Download the 5.5 Meg. file and install the Auto Updater into your IL-2 HSFX MAIN Folder! Note! During the install it is going to ask you to install C++ Redistributable! Say YES! The C++ is required for the updater to run. It may also ask you to repair or upgrade you C++, Do It!

b.) Open your Main IL-2 HSFX Folder and find the updater: HSFX_Client_Updater.exe

c.) Double click the updater and go take a long walk while the slow updater downloads another, (at the time of this writing) 524.13 Mb.

d.) When complete you will have updated HSFX 6.0 to 6.0.11 thru the current which is HSFX 6.0.16

Step 6: Remember.....

1.) You should copy over you settings.ini from your UP 3.0 RC4 install (Main IL-2 Folder/User/doe folder) so you don't have to reprogram everything!

2.) Copy over your conf.ini from UP 3.0 RC4. I would back up the HSFX original!

3.) Copy your skins & mission files over.

4.) Adjust Hyperlobby's path to your New game location, as required.

Now let's get out there and get this done!

Awesome instructions duff.

Step #4 looks identical to step #2, just to confirm they are different?

Also I would copy over skins/missions folders as well.

Nope Step 2 and Step 4 our different! Step 2 is the 4.6 Gigs of HSXF files, Step 4 is the 5.5 meg Updater for access to another 524.13 Megs of updates to the updates in Step 2 :)

Good call on skins / missions folders!

Thanks for the compliment Hogan :)

Very nice of you to offer, _AH_AD2.

I think going a step farther is the better thing. Let's send them the complete updated game on a DVD.......

I wasn't at the meeting..so are we really going or just testing at this point? I thought we could do this after we have taken the vote and before we go hot! I didn't know a time line or if there is one!

_AD2, this is really easy to do. We can just take a copy of anyone's updated 'ready to go game'. Burn it to a DVD then have these guys simply copy it from the DVD and paste it to where they want it on their machines. They would have to download the updater from above and install it so it knows the game path for future updates.  So they simply:

1.) Copy the game from the DVD and paste it to where they want it on their machines.

2.) Download and Install the Updater.exe from my post above.

3.) Copy thier Skins/ missions/ and user folder to the game they were given.

4.) Make a shortcut to the il2fb.exe and the JSGME.exe and their golden.

Hey to the entire _AH_Squad...No man left behind!

Title: UP3.0 RC4 & HSFX - Co-Installation
Post by: _AH_Duff4r on October 16, 2012, 11:17:44 PM
HSFX/UP3.0 RC4 Merged-Installation...

Ok for all you hotshots like....Jack.....this can be done. Why? The UP3.0 and the HSFX files can Co-exist as they are named differently and/or can be merged as one WON'T overwrite the other. The HSFX files are fb_hfx(something). UP 3.0 RC4 uses the #UP# folder for Mods and HSFX uses a 'Mods' folder like was used in UP 2.01, thus there is NO interference.

Open your UP3.0 RC4 JSGME.exe and disable everything by moving all 'enabled items' from the right pane to the left pane in JSGME.exe.

DO THIS! ==> Make a copy of your UP3.0 RC4 game! You been WARNED!!

Ensure that your UP3.0 RC4 Install has been updated to 4.11.1. Don't be a dumb a$$, RUN 4.11.1 to be sure!

Download ALL the files as listed above for the HSFX 6.0, the patch to HSFX 6.01 and the Updater Installer.

Run the HSFX 6.0 installer and point it at the IL-2 1946 UP3.0 RC4 install you want to add HSFX to!

Run the Patch pointing it at the same install, now patch HSFX 6.0 to HSFX 6.01

Install the updater to the same UP3.0 RC4 install and run it for a long time (approx. 2.5 hours with my 10 Meg down connection).

Note 1:
After Installing HSFX to a UP3.0 install the installation will have renamed the UP3.0RC4 jsgmemods folder to, 'OLD-jsgmemods' YOU MUST copy the entries in your OLD-jsgmemods folder back to the new jsgmemods folder created by the HSFX installation this merged the two installs and now contains all the files from both UP 3.0 RC4 and HSFX.

Note 2:
Depending on what you select when you open your JSGME.exe your il2fb.exe will act accordingly. If you're going to run UP3.0 RC4 then you will see the selector as normal! If you are going to run HSFX by selecting, 'HSFX history mod' or 'HSFX history mod and 'Expert mode' it will start without the selector

Note 3: You can now run:
a.) 4.10 stock
b.) 4.11 stock
c.) 4.11.1 -  NOTHING enabled in JSGME.exe NOTE** In SOME SERVERS you can have HSFX & Mods enabled and still join! Some you can't!
d.) UP 3.0 RC4
e.) HSFX Standard
f.) HSFX Expert mode

I am so totally not responsible if you F__k up your game!

One thing I did notice is no left and right wheel brakes in the Hotas.  Don't know whats going on with that yet.  There is something with head left and right, up and down.  You will get dead quick when too close to AAA.

_AH_Turbo - When I updated the HFSX to the 17. Now the updater brings up the JSGME. Is this normal ?

Yep this is normal. It sets you up to put the MODs like HSFX history mod back in!

_AH_Viper - One thing I did notice is no left and right wheel brakes in the Hotas.  Don't know whats going on with that yet.  There is something with head left and right, up and down.  You will get dead quick when too close to AAA.

Brakes are there in UP 30. RC4 but not in HSFX. Head left, right, up & down is just that you can assign it to a Hat switch.

Let me see if the brakes are planned for HSFX..

No worries for me as I use a script in my CH Pro HOTAS to assign that. It works the same for me in HSFX.

Good catches, both!

OK Viper on Toe Brakes:

From 242 Squadron, 'Prof' "We have no no plans for that at the present time."

From what else I could garner...If TD (Team Didadlos) implements it in patch or in Version 4.12...then it will be in HSFX.

My best,

~S~! Gents,

Apart from my busy schedule on the road during the week, and the occasional weekend.....and my weekend days being occupied with the usual errands, shopping, laundry, and spending time with my three daughters, not to mention trying to find some down time for my own personal mental health.... (which I am sure DW can insert the usual inappropriate self serving comment ---> *here*), I simply can't find the time to mind the download screen and effectively get all these downloads together in a timely fashion, never mind in the next couple months....

:help-sos-sos-29402:
When and if a dvd with a clean updated current HSFX game can be available, I would like to respectfully request a copy.  I have been running my computer rig here on the XP operating system for almost three years without a reformat and have a new copy of Windows 7 and a new hard drive to set it up on, with the plan to use my old HD for simple file storage.  I plan to reformat in the near future but don't want to until I can get the correct files to properly update IL2 to the current version, or acquire a clean dvd game copy from one of you fine gentlemen.   I have copies of the user/settings/skins etc.  files from my current game saved on an external HD, so I am good there.

Can one of you scholarly computer literate gents keep me in the loop as to when and if that dvd is created and available for request and dispersal?  I will provide my mailing info for you then.   And of course I will also send any renumeration for your efforts to send me the dvd, which would my pleasure to compensate you for your gallant and generous effort in assisting me in keeping my game current.  I simply can't wait to renew and continue to enjoy your camaraderie as we maintain our beloved online pursuit of collectively blowing each other out of the sky, I do truly miss you big lugs!!!

Respectfully,

~S~!

Mobes.

Yup, recieved Jack/Nimble's drive yesterday.

1) Insert and copy the folder, (17GB) to my hard drive. Went and stirred the pasta/sauce.

2) Copy and paste my .ini/users/paint schemes into the new HSFX folder.

3) Make shortcuts on the desktop for JSGME and updater.

Total "hands on" time for install to flying the game was less than 5 min.

Will send it your way tomorrow BBQ.

Note here! It is NOT ENOUGH to make a shortcut to the updater...It simply will not run! You must download and install it to your game.

You been warned!

See my posts on HSFX for the download link. It is very small and takes seconds to do. Again, it may ask you to install C++ redistributable on your computer. This is a good thing to have anyway and a necessity for HSFX.

So Gonz..Tell us what you think was in error or what you did that was wrong...it may help others.

All it is so very important that you read the instructions in my first post here and follow them step-by-step. Failure to complete any step will result in an error. MOST IMPORTANT ===>

YOU MUST START WITH A CLEAN 4.11.1 INSTALL. ANYTHING ELSE WILL FAIL.

TD, clean just means the stock IL-2 with no mods like UP 3.0 or HSFX. The current stock game is IL-2 1946 4.11.1. You are using IL-2 1946 4.10.1m with the UP 3.0 RC4 modification.

No worries you're going to get a Thumb drive with it all set up. You'll copy it to you computer and off ya go!

QuoteSo Gonz..Tell us what you think was in error or what you did that was wrong...it may help others.

QuoteDo you mean a clean 4.11.1, Gonz? Cause I don't think it's supposed to install into 4.09.

Doing it the way the way Duff4r posted just didn't work for me. Why, still not sure.

1st, 2nd, 3rd, attempts were with a clean version of 4.09 that I updated as specified. I could get the game to run as 4.11.1 with no problems but it just wouldn't launch after installing HSFX.

With tries 4, 5, and 6, I just screwed around trying to find how it actually works... What it added, and what it deleted.

The I found a 4.07 version of the game and updated it step by step all the way to 4.11.1. Then I installed HSFX. Then installed the auto updater. It worked.

Why, not really sure still.

As for my missions comment earlier... I had some down loaded campaigns that I added to the game, I also created some training missions based on the ones that come with the game. For some reason a lot of those don't work now. My thinking is that while HSFX has the same maps as before, the map coordinates have been altered. I'm still experimenting as time permits.

I do like the game as I mentioned.... I just can't believe that they got rid of the FJ-2.

AIs in HFSX.... Big change in tactics and capability!

They buggers are shear evil now!! I set up a quick dogfight map. 32 blue vs 32 red. All different aircraft types, all different skins, all set to "Veteran". Then I got my backside handed to me!!

First off, like I mentioned in an earlier post, the sounds had me drooling so bad that the first time I ran it I was too busy having a stupid grin on my face to realize that I'd gotten shot down!

Rounds 2,3, and 4 observations:

AIs accuracy is lower than before.
AIs do not see through cloud as before.
It is easier to sneak up on a wingman if he's following his leader.
Wingmen will break off of their leader and attack you even if you don't shoot at their lead.
AIs will push their aircraft right to the performance envelope trying to get a kill. No super human moves, but they if they have any energy advantage at all, you're in for a very rough time.
AI defensive man are a little more constrained than they used to be... No super crazy rolling around but really yank and bank stuff. Still very hard to hit but more accurate than before.

The AIs have gotten a lot tougher when set to veteran. Watch your 6!

What do you mean when you say they won't work though, is it a loading error? Are aircraft/ships/objects missing?

Sorry Dark, the error I get is the map error.

TD I had a bunch of back up copies of the game and all of the downloads required to patch it up from the original Pacific Fighters 4.01 I think.

Sorry Dark, the error I get is the map error.

Some of the maps have been renamed. I know at least one north african map was renamed and the Slot maps all got re-named to Solomons recently, possibly as part of their inclusion in an official patch. The easy fix is to go into the FMB and open the right map and save a temporary mission using it. Then open the .mis file of that temporary mission and copy the first line in the [MAIN] section. ie.  "MAP LALnormandy2/LAL_load2.ini". Then paste that line into the old mission, it should then use the new map name and load fine.

We're already there, just waiting for all pilots to get 'up & on!

Really no hassle depending on your download speed. The only hassle is the updater taking you from version HSFX 6.01 to the current version. That takes a while to download. The server is pretty slow. Expect 2 - 3 hours.

Now all I have to do is get the updater running and hook it all up to the hyper lobby..... I really like the idea Olds has..... its hooked up to the switcher so he can run any version he wants to by just putting the version over to the right side.......

Even simpler, Nimble, I don't have to move anything. I just select from the list on the left. Just don't hit the Delete Game button :unhappy-059: ...it can make a mess. That's why I keep extra copies  :happy-112:

Notes: Nimble lost his game so he didn't have a Conf.ini file from his old game.

Screen resolution: Open your Conf.ini and adjust each of the 12 parameters to look like the one below except insert your monitors Native Screen resolution.

[window]
width=1280 <==== Replace with your monitors Native resolution
height=1024 <===  Replace with your monitors Native resolution

DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1

Ahhh, OK you must choose HSFX servers or...open your JSGME.exe and move everything to to left. Now you can get into the stock game servers with 4.11.1

To play HSFX servers then move HSFX history mod to the right side, OK?

Who,what, where, when, why of all those mods in the GSME? There are a whole bunch of 'um and I only use(per. Turbo)3 or 4. What are the other ones for? Why not put 'um all over on the right side or dump 'um? Just wondering.
