S~

Mentioned last night that I've got my connection set to metered and Windows doesn't update me automatically. Sounded like there is some interest in doing this so here's some info for you about it.

Windows allows this by default for WiFi connections, but not wired connections. Of course there's a way to tell Windows your wired connection is metered, but it involves a registry edit.
The link below should have everything you need if you want to set your connections to metered.   There are a couple other settings that help avoid interruptions, too - they are also explained at the link below.

Most everything you want to know about limiting windows use of your connection here:  http://www.howtogeek.com/226722/how-when-and-why-to-set-a-connection-as-metered-on-windows-10/

If you are windows 10 and connected via WiFi, here's the short answer:
Open your Start menu and select Settings.
Click or tap the "Network & Internet" icon,
Select "Wi-Fi," and select "Advanced options" at the bottom of the list of nearby Wi-Fi networks.
Activate the "Set as metered connection" switch.

At that awkward age where your brain has gone from " Probably shouldn't say that" to
"What the hell, let's see what happens"?  Me too.
