Here's a rough plan for VMF-223 M19.  I welcome any and all input.

My plan is very simple, what with me being the unimaginative type.

I plan to have A flight take off & fly NW to E, 8/9 & then turn and maintain 270 degrees, climbing to 8km (25000 ft).

B flight is to head SW a short distance & head 270 degrees starting at E, 7/6 climbing to 8km (25000 ft).

C Flight is to head 270 degrees along 8/7, climbing to 8km.

D Flight will follow the same path as C flight, but will maintain alt. of 5km, in case the enemy is coming in low.

All flights should fly line abreast to spread out to allow further side distance views.

After extending 20km to the west of the island, each flight is to fly back to the island at a 90 degree heading.  Once feet dry, reverse and

extend 10km west before turning back.

Any flight that spots enemy is to relay location, altitude, and direction.

Unless engaged by fighters, all flights are to form up before engaging.  I'd like to hit them as a group, with one flight remaining

high CAP.

VMF223 Campaign Mission # 20 Briefing Package

From: Adjutant, M.A.G. 23
To: VMF-223
Subj: 13 September 1942 (4th mission) Mission Briefing

The mission brief is available for download.  Go to the "View Downloads" section.

All flight personnel are directed to download and review the brief!

Note that the file face-pace incorrectly lists the mission as # 19.  It is in fact # 20, and the Group S-1 has been taken out and flogged for his administrative oversight (he took it like a man).

I say we give the guy a break, I only realized after the last mission that I had neglected to D/L the newest brief and was still looking at #18. You'd think I would'a noticed...

                                         Mission 21 Flight Orders:

S! All…Sorry for the lateness of the Orders.

As you read in the mission brief, we will be engaging 2 groups of enemy aircraft. Squads C and D will
have the northern sections. Hopefully  If it is just a light flight in the north, you will be able to cover the base incase anything gets by in the southern sections
Each squad will consist of 4 aircraft. Any extra pilots will be assigned to “R” squad.
This Squad will assist the southern flight leads …Squad leader to be assigned by me at mission time. Squad orders are as follows:

“A” Flight: Comms “A” channel. Take off to patrol area map grid _B3 Thru B4_____
Flight level 7000m, Fuel  75%  engage fighter escort

“B” Flight: Comms “B” channel. Take off to patrol area map grid ___B5 Thru B6___
Flight level 7000m, Fuel  75%  engage bomber formation

“C” Flight: Comms “C” channel. Take off to patrol area map grid ___B7 Thru B8___
Flight level 7000m, Fuel  75% After engagement fall back
To Henderson and Cap….. conserve  ammo and defend base

“D” Flight: Comms “D” channel. Take off to patrol area map grid ____B9 thru B10__
Flight level 7000m, Fuel  75% After engagement fall back
To Henderson and Cap……conserve ammo and defend base

“R” Flight: Comms “Lobby” channel. Take off to patrol area map grid __D6 Thru D7____
Flight level 8000m, Fuel  75% You will join A and B
Flight  after engagement and help when needed.

Comms will be setup as before…Flight leads will be channel commanders
                                                       Whisper to Channel commanders only.

This should be pretty straight forward Gents, GL
 And Good hunting…..

S~

Any questions? (asks _AH_Ring's assistant-to-the-assistant laser-pointer)

Yes, sir!  I have one. The lastest brief handed to us by today's chief-assistant-to-the-assisant undersecretary of latrine maintenance instructs C/D Flights to cover the northern sector at an altitude of 7,000m. However, radar reports the 5+ enemy force approaching the Northern Sector is at an altitude of 1000m.  (Refer to: Adjutant, M.A.G. 23's, 14 September 1942 Mission Briefing.)

Sir! Is the coastwatcher's enemy plane group totals and Cactus's radar reports accurate?

Spar:  Both the coastwatcher and radar contacts are accurate.

Great work Ring! That plan went really well.

Who's leading next week, and can you, Moggy, add me to the command queue? And how many missions do we have left?
