     S! chaps,

This weeks mission will have a little more complicated plan, so I've elected to post some briefing info in advance so you can familiarise yourselves with the plan. We won't know what flight is flying what aircraft until mission time but we are all basically going to the same places at the same times.

So what we're doing is attacking V1 flying bomb ramps. The enemy has been flinging these things at us like crazy and they have the potential to cause us more problems than just about anything. The location of 3 of the ramps that have been bombarding the eastern side of the island have been pinpointed.

The four groups of aircraft we'll have and their roles are as follows :

    8 x A-20G - Ground Attack
    2 x A-20G + 4 x P-38J - Ground Attack
    8 x P-40E - Escort, Ground Attack if needed
    8 x P-39N-1 - Escort, Ground Attack if needed

The following map shows the waypoint paths we will take :

With the exception of takeoff and landing points, all aircraft have identical waypoints.

All aircraft will carry bombs, even the escorts.

After takeoff, all aircraft will head straight for waypoint #1 in I5 keypad 4. This is our first rally point, we will orbit here until all aircraft are present then move on.  Our ingress path to the target is a wide right hook, this is meant to avoid enemy fighters thus allowing the escorts to carry their bombs to the main target. If fighters are encountered, escorts will jettison bombs and protect the ground pounders.

Waypoints 4, 5 and 6 mark the locations of the V1 ramps which we'll call ramps one, two and three :

Recon reports a cluster of vehicles surrounding each ramp including several Nimrod AA tanks. Possibly as many as 5 or 6 or more around each. For this purpose each fighter group will be working with a ground pounding group to distract flak while the latter make their runs. The fighters will go in first at 8,000-10,000 feet. Once they have the flak's attention the bombers will go in. If the escorts get engaged with enemy fighters before this, the bombers will just have to handle the flak themselves. Pairings are as follows :

P-39s with the 8 A-20s

P-40s with the P-38/A-20 group

The 8 A-20s first target will be Ramp One, the P-38/A-20 group will go first for Ramp Two. Bombers should try and use as few bombs as possible. Once the ramp is gone, call it out and all aircraft that have not dropped abort your runs on that target! The first group to kill their assigned ramp gets first crack at Ramp Three. If the bomber groups run out of ordnance the fighters will add their bombs to the attack if they still have them.

Once all 3 ramps are destroyed or all aircraft are out of bombs/rockets everyone is to clear the area and get away from the flak. As quickly as possible all aircraft will make their way to waypoint #7 in E9 keypad 1, over the northern most tip of the large lake. This is the second rally point. We will hold here until all aircraft are grouped up and move on.

Our secondary objective is an armed reconnaissance through waypoints 8, 9 and 10. This is the Siniscola-Nuoro-Dorgali road which I'm sure everyone is getting familiar with. Targets are anything enemy around Nuoro and Dorgali and anything heading south from Siniscola. Be very carefull around Dorgali as there are several friendly tanks in and around the city. If you are not certain that tank you see is enemy, do not attack it. If we have'nt encountered enemy air opposition before this, we can almost certainly expect it along this leg of our route. So escorts should be ready for a scrap.

Once we reach waypoint #11 all aircraft are free to break up and RTB. P-39s should make note that they are launching from two different bases and be sure they return to the proper airfields.

I think that's everything.....if you have any questions feel free to ask em here. Hopefully this will speed things up loading up on mission night.
