Woohoo, no new aircraft this week! Now I can make some skins for the people who are too shy to ask. What shade of pink to make SKAT's plane...

Excellent turn-out for mission - 04, we had 24 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on next Tuesday - May 9th.

"Solomon Islands Campaign"
Mission - 05 - Guadalcanal / 03
Date: August 28th, 1942

After Action Report:

Well done on destroying those enemy planes. Our group destroyed over 40 enemy aircraft. It appears that the enemy will continue to harass us as often and as long as the weather holds. We've got more breathing room now here on the Canal. The Marines have cleared out about 25% of the island around Henderson Field, but the fight has been very very costly.

Intelligence:

Good Morning Gentlemen ...

Radar reports a large group of enemy ships approaching the Canal. They are heading towards Cape Esperance, no doubt to reinforce thier positions on the island.

Radar is showing the enemy convoy speed is 15 knots on a south-east heading of 160 degrees. Looks to be at least five ships making up the convoy.

The Mission:

F4F's & P-400's will fly to Cape Esperance and then proceed on patrol to grid CE-14. Provide CAP for the strike aircraft.

SBD's will arm with bombs and fly to Cape Esperance then take a heading north-west toward the Russel Islands to grid CE-14.

*See way point map above.

Locate and destroy enemy shipping.

NOTAM's:

SBD's (1st Squad, seats 13 - 27) - will use "blue" comms
F4F's (2nd Squad, seats 1-4, 9-12) - will use "red" comms
P-400's (3rd Squad, seats 5-8, 29-32) - will use main channel
SBD's (Spare's, HQ & Guests, seats 33 - 39) - will use "blue" comms, AIR-START, zero fuel at this time

Good Luck ...

Excellent turn-out for mission - 05, we had 23 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on next Tuesday - May 16th.

"Solomon Islands Campaign"
Mission - 06 - Guadalcanal / 04
Date: September 1st, 1942

After Action Report:

Well done hitting the enemy transport ships. None of their ships got through to reinforce their troops. Our group also shot down 20+ enemy aircraft.

Intelligence:

SCRAMBLE ... SCRAMBLE ... SCRAMBLE !!!

Radar has numerous enemy planes heading to Henderson.  Looks like they flew in low over the water.  The radar has just picked them up when they climbed up to attack altitude. Looks like the enemy has three separate groups inbound.

The nearest group is approaching from the East at a 3000 ft.  Following the first group are, groups two and three and they are approaching from the north-west along the coast at 3000 - 4000+ ft.

The Mission:

F4F's & P-400's protect Henderson Field !!!

NOTAM's:

"All pilots" will remain on the same comm channel, AH-Base.

P-400's (1st Squad, seats 5-8, 21-24)
F4F's (2nd Squad, seats 1-4, 9-12)
F4F's (3rd Squad, seats 13-20)
P-400's (Spare's, HQ & Guests, seats 25-28) AIR-START, zero fuel at this time

Good Luck ...

Me in a P-400?  ROFLMAO!!!
Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.

AH_DealnDave

The P-400 has been a pretty good plane in the campaign thus far.  Quite a few of the guys that have flown it have come back from the mission "alive" and with kills on board.   :)

Excellent turn-out for mission - 06, we had 20 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on next Tuesday - May 23rd.

"Solomon Islands Campaign"
Mission - 07 - Guadalcanal / 05
Date: September 3rd, 1942

After Action Report:

Well done hitting those enemy planes our group destroyed over "60" enemy aircraft. We lost some aircraft and pilots as well, we had only "8" survivors, but we are still in good shape.  We've been reinforced with more pilots and aircraft that came over from the USS Enterprise (F4F's, SBD's and now TBF's) before she sailed back to Pearl Harbor for repairs.

Intelligence:

The enemy has landed some reinforcements while we were being attacked. They have a small marshaling area in grid CH-8. Two destroyers are in Yaro Bay protecting the marshaling area. The bay is also protected by the neighboring hills surrounding it.

The Mission:

We are hitting the marshaling area.
F4F's - provide CAP for the strike aircraft.
SBD's - will arm with bombs and hit the marshaling areas and then strafe them.
TBF's - will arm with torpedoes and destroy the destroyers, then strafe the marshaling areas.

NOTAM's:

TBF's (1st Squad, seats 5-16, 37-48) - will use main channel
SBD's (2nd Squad, seats 21-35) - will use "blue" comms
F4F's (3rd Squad, seats 1-4, 17-20) - will use "red" comms
SBD's (Spare's, HQ & Guests, seats 49-55) - will use "blue" comms, AIR-START, zero fuel at this time

Excellent turn-out for mission - 07, we had 20 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on next Tuesday - May 30th.

"Solomon Islands Campaign"
Mission - 08 - Guadalcanal / 06
Date: September 5th, 1942

After Action Report:

Great job hitting the enemy marshaling areas.  The Japanese have lost valuable supplies, vehicles, and troops to use against us.  Our group also destroyed all enemy shipping in the area, WELL DONE !!!

Intelligence:

Looks like our raid has upset the enemy.  Radar reports two separate groups of enemy aircraft near the Russell Islands heading toward Cape Esperance.  No doubt they are heading toward the Henderson area. Both formations look to have at least 20 enemy planes, possibly a bit more. The two formations look to be about 5+ mins apart.  Altitude is roughly 7,500 ft or a bit higher.

The Mission:

Intercept and destroy the enemy aircraft. Defend Henderson.

NOTAM's:

* All sections to use the same comm's channel

F4F's (1st Squad, seats 1-8)
F4F's (2nd Squad, seats 9-16)
P-400's (3rd Squad, seats 17-24)
P-400's (Spare's, HQ & Guests, seats 25-28) - AIR-START, zero fuel at this time

Excellent turn-out for mission - 08, we had 23 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on next Tuesday - June 6th (Battle of Midway and D-Day on this date).

"Solomon Islands Campaign"
Mission - 09 - Guadalcanal / 07
Date: September 10th, 1942

After Action Report:

Good morning ... well done intercepting those enemy bombers. None of them got through to us here at Henderson !!! We did however, have another minor raid by enemy fighter float planes. We're hoping the navy will be able to hit the base where they are originating from in the near future.

Intelligence:

This morning the Marines need some help, Badly! They are being shelled by the enemy with heavy guns. The guns are located on the ridge in grid CJ-8. They have three separate groups of guns spread across the ridge. The Marines have marked these areas with white smoke.

SBD Target Area and F4F CAP Patrol Area:

Enemy aircraft in this area is possible, however not likely. We've hit their air group pretty hard these last few days. However, another air attack on Henderson is possible once again.

The Mission:

F4F's will provide CAP for the strike aircraft.

SBD's - will arm with bombs and attack the enemy guns located in grid CJ-8. The attack group is divided into 4 sections of 2 planes each. Three sections will attack one of each of the three gun areas. The forth section to attack any remaining guns.

P-400's - are to sweep the northern side of the island in an easterly direction to grid CQ-8, pad 3 on your map. If enemy aircraft are encountered ... destroy them.

P-400 Patrol Area:

NOTAM's:

P-400's (1st Squad, seats 17-20, 29-32) - use main channel comms
F4F's (2nd Squad, seats 1-4, 9-12) - use "red" comms
SBD's (3rd Squad, seats 5, 7, 13, 15, 21-27) - use "blue" comms
SBD's (Spare's, HQ & Guests, seats 33-39) - use "blue" comms, AIR-START, zero fuel at this time
