For this week maybe we should try a strategy like what we used sometimes in Fortress Malta, have the two F4U-1 squadrons go out ahead and strip away the fighter escort so the P-38s have a clear shot at the bombers?

Good turn-out for mission - 23, we had 19 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on Tuesday - October 3rd.

"Solomon Islands Campaign"
Mission - 24
Date: June 3rd, 1943

After Action Report:

Great job protecting our base here in the Russell's from the enemy bombers!!!  Not a single enemy bomber got through, great teamwork by the entire group !!!

Intelligence:

Good morning Gentlemen ... (08:00 hrs)

Today we begin "Operation Toenails" ... The invasion of the New Georgia Islands.  The enemy has been very busy building up in this area.  They have, or are almost finished, building three airstrips within this island chain.  The enemy airstrips are located at Segi Point and Munda (both on New Georgia), and Vila on Kolombongara.

Their fighters are on constant patrol over these islands.  They also have four warship anchorages scattered throughout the area.  They are co-located near their airstrips.  However, one anchorage is exposed.  This anchorage is in Vura Bay (grid BQ-16).

Our latest submarine reports state the enemy has four warships currently in this anchorage.  The ship types are a cruiser and three destroyers.

The Mission:

We are going to attack the anchorage at Vura Bay (grid BQ-16).

TBF's - will arm with torpedoes and attack enemy shipping (see map below).

F4U's - will cover the strike aircraft (see map below).

NOTAM's:

"ALL" aircraft will rendezvous at West Bay, grid CA-13, pad 6, on your map.  Then proceed to the target area.

*Be ever watchful for enemy aircraft in this area.

TBF's (1st Squad, seats 1-12, 29-40) - use "red" comms
F4U's (2nd Squad, seats 13-20) - use "base channel" comms
F4U's (3rd Squad, seats 21-28) - use "base channel" comms
TBF's (Spare's, HQ & Guests, seats 41-52) - use "red" comms, AIR-START, zero fuel at this time

Good Luck ...

S~ All ...

TBF Pilots, note the way points for the anchorage.  This is a narrow passage to the anchorage, allowing for the torpedoes, both range and depth, to be effective.

I used my Bombsight table2 program and it says at 2000m, going 400kmh it will take 13 minutes to go 100km.. its approx 130 km 1 way... we may go faster than 400kmh i think tho..

According to the "full mission builder" it's 28 minutes from take off to the target area, with time over the target and the trip back, we're looking at 60 minutes of game time. Roughly  :)

That 20 minutes is dictated by the speed you have the ac set to in FMB

_AH_DarkWolf

FMB defaults to 300kmh, so assuming Dave did'nt change that its what, about 185 mph. I think Avengers can cruise a little faster than that in this game.
