Excellent turn-out for mission - 21, we had 20 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on Tuesday - February 19th.

"Philippines Campaign - Luzon"
Mission - 22
Date: January 5th, 1945

After Action Report:

Welcome to TF-38 ... The group has been further assigned to the following aircraft carriers: the USS Yorktown, the USS Lexington, and the USS Enterprise.  The aircraft assigned is the F4U-1D.

Nice Job !!! ... Hitting Clark Airfield. The group destroyed over 40 enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground.

Intelligence:

Good Morning Gentlemen ...

We are steaming toward the Gulf of Linguayen. This is the location for our invasion of Luzon, known as "Operation Mike 1".

*ATTENTION ... Radar has picked up enemy planes heading for the fleet.

The Mission:

Scramble ... Scramble ... Scramble !!!

ALL - Pilots man your planes !!! Radar has numerous enemy aircraft heading for the fleet ... estimated time to the fleet is 7-10 minutes. The 1st enemy group is heading toward us from the south-east at 135 degrees, grid BC-67.

The second enemy group is heading toward the fleet from the south-west at 225 degrees, grid BA-66. Numerous other enemy groups are following from the south-west.



Protect the fleet !!!

Notams:

* All pilots to use same comms.
* All deck aircraft have 1% fuel.

1st Squad (F4U) - USS Yorktown - seats 1-8
2nd Squad (F4U) - USS Lexington - seats 9-16
3rd Squad (F4U) - USS Enterprise - seats 17-24
HQ & Guests (F4U) seats 25-28, AIR START

Mission - 23
Date: January 6th, 1945

After Action Report:

Nice Job !!! ... Keeping those enemy kamikazes away from the fleet. The enemy planes did manage to damage the light carrier USS Ommaney Bay bad enough that she had to be abandoned and scuttled. The destroyer USS Helm was also badly hit, however she is still afloat. The group shot down over 50 enemy aircraft during the attack on the fleet.

Intelligence:

Good Afternoon Gentlemen ... We are continuing to steam toward the Gulf of Linguayen. Our tasking for today ... Attack one of the enemy's kamikaze airfields located in grid BA-61, pad 9.



This enemy field is primarily a fighter strip. The field is protected by AAA of medium strength. There are regular enemy air patrols over this area at irregular times during the day. Kamikazes may also try to attack the fleet yet again, be prepared to respond if the fleet comes under attack.

Attack and destroy as many enemy aircraft that could be used as kamikazes against the fleet.

1st Squad (F4U) - arm with bombs and rockets. Attack the enemy airfield in grid BA-61, pad 9.
2nd Squad (F4U) - arm with bombs and rockets. Attack the enemy airfield in grid BA-61, pad 9.
3rd Squad (F4U) - arm with default, provide CAP for the strike aircraft.
HQ & Guests (F4U) - arm with default, provide CAP for the strike aircraft.

Protect the fleet !!!

Since none of these carriers have catapults, how fast are they moving? Are we gonna have any restrictions in terms of bomb load?

Date: January 9th, 1945

After Action Report:

Well Done !!! ... Hitting  the enemy kamikaze airfield. The group destroyed over 40 enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground.

Intelligence:

Good Morning Gentlemen ...

Today ... the invasion of Luzon, at the Gulf of Linguayan commences this morning. Our tasking is to hit the enemy airfield located in grid BA-54, grid 5, and to knock out heavy enemy guns located in grid BA-54, pad 1.

Both areas are protected by AAA.

The airfield is an active enemy kamikaze base.



The Mission:

Attack and destroy the airfield and the heavy guns.

1st Squad (F4U) - arm with bombs and rockets. Attack the enemy airfield in grid BA-54, grid 5.

Date: January 13th, 1945

After Action Report:

Nice Work ... Knocking out those heavy guns and hitting the kamikaze base.  Our group destroyed 30+ enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground. The invasion of Luzon is well on it's way.  Gen. MacArthur's army has established a large beachhead and has pushed inland down the Linguayen Valley.

Intelligence:

Good Afternoon Gentlemen ...

Our tasking for today ... Is to maintain the airspace above Linguayen Valley as the Army pushes south to Angeles.

*ATTENTION !!!... Radar reports enemy aircraft departing numerous airfields to the south.  This could be another large kamikaze raid on the fleet.

The Mission:

Pilot's man your planes ...

All aircraft arm with default ammo. Over-Fly and protect the fleet !!!

Notams:

* All pilots to use same comms.
* All deck aircraft have 1% fuel.
