Excellent turn-out for mission - 26, we had 24 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on Tuesday - March 26th.

"Philippines Campaign - Luzon"

Great Work !!! ... Hitting Clark Field.  The group destroyed over 50 enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground.

Admiral Fletcher is leading the naval support with a cruiser and five destroyers. North of Manila the Army continues to advance toward Clark Field, they are still making progress.

Excellent turn-out for mission - 27, we had 24 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on Tuesday - April 2nd.

"Philippines Campaign - Luzon"
Mission - 28
Date: February 4th, 1945

After Action Report:

Well Done !!! ... Covering Gen Swing's landing force and also for covering Adm. Fletcher's destroyer task force. Gen. Swing's force has isolated the Bataan Peninsula and has linked up with the 1st Cavalry Division north of Manila.

The group shot down over 40 enemy aircraft in the air.

Intelligence:

Good Morning Gentlemen ...

The 1st Cavalry Division (USA) has reached the outskirts of Manila from the north while units of 11th Airborne Division approach from the south. Today's tasking ... Is covering Gen. Swing's third airborne regiment as they are parachuted south of Manila near the enemy airfield, as well as, attacking the airfield and port near the city.

Enemy air patrols are scarce now. This is due to the group's ability to clear the air of enemy aircraft, however, be-aware that the enemy still has some air-power in this area.

The Mission:

All aircraft (P-38) - arm with bombs and rockets. All aircraft - rendezvous with the C-47's in grid BD-43, pad 2.

1st Squad - attack the airfield in grid BD-46, pad 8. This squad is also tasked with covering the airborne drop over the airfield. Hit the AAA first, as this will help reduce airborne troop casualties.

Airfield RECON Photo:

2nd Squad - Attack the port in grid BD-47, pad 2.
3rd Squad - Attack enemy naval shipping attempting to escape from Manila. Search grid BC-46, pad 1 to pad 9.
HQ & Guests - Attack the port in grid BD-47, pad 2.

Port RECON Photo:

Notams:

* All pilots to use same comms.
* All aircraft are at Zero fuel.

1st Squad (P-38) - seats 1-8
2nd Squad (P-38) - seats 9-16
3rd Squad (P-38) - seats 17-24
HQ & Guests (P-38) seats 25-28

Good turn-out for mission - 28, we had 18 pilots altogether !!!  Here is the next briefing to be flown on Tuesday - April 9th.

"Philippines Campaign - Luzon - Final Mission"
Mission - 29
Date: February 16th, 1945

After Action Report:

Excellent Job !!! ... Covering the airborne assault on the airbase south of Manila, as well as, hitting the port and the airfield itself. The group destroyed over 20 enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground.

Intelligence:

Good Morning Gentlemen ...

Two battalions of army paratroops are scheduled to be dropped on Corregidor Island in Manila Bay this morning. Since the battle for Luzon began 3200 tons of bombs have been dropped on Corregidor.

Today's tasking ... Is covering the airborne assault on Corregidor, grid BB-46, pad 2. The group has also been tasked to hit the nearby enemy sea-plane base in grid BB-45, pad 6.

Enemy air patrols have, for the most part, been eliminated, however, there maybe a few enemy planes left to harass the mission.

The Mission:

All aircraft - rendezvous with the C-47's in grid BD-43, pad 2.

1st Squad - Arm with bombs and rockets. Attack Corregidor, grid BB-46, pad 2. Hit the AAA first, as this will help reduce airborne troop casualties.

Recon Photos - Corregidor

2nd Squad - Arm with bombs and rockets. Attack the enemy sea-plane base nearby in grid BB-45, pad 6.

Recon Photo - Sea Plane Base

3rd Squad - Arm with default. Provide CAP for the strike aircraft and airborne drop.
HQ & Guests - Arm with default. Provide CAP for the strike aircraft and airborne drop.

Notams:

* All pilots to use same comms.
* All aircraft have Zero fuel at this time.

1st Squad (P-38) - seats 1-8
2nd Squad (P-38) - seats 9-16
3rd Squad (P-38) - seats 17-24
HQ & Guests (P-38) seats 25-28

At the end of this mission, "ALL" planes to land at Clark Airfield in grid BB-49, pad 1.

Good Luck ...

From February through the end of June 1945, only sporadic fighting occurs across most of the Philippine Islands. On June 28th, MacArthur announces that the operations in Luzon are over. It is now five months and 19 days since the invasion of the Philippines. There are still many Japanese through-out the islands who will go on fighting until the end of the war. Much of the mopping up will be left to the Filipino units aided by US Eighth Army troops, who will take over responsibility for Luzon and the other Philippine islands in order to free Sixth Army to prepare for the invasion of Japan.

This concludes the Philippines Campaign. It has been my pleasure to build this campaign for our Squadron.  I hope you enjoyed flying this campaign as much as I enjoyed building it.
