~S~ External fuel tank(1)always went under the right wing. I think that is what you are seeing.

Ha, good one. I think there is video of that paticular crash, the guy leaping up on the wingroot to help the pilot looks familiar.

Check out this video, at about 5:30 in I think it's video of this aircraft.
